Dubai: Residents in Sharjah’s eastern region were treated to an unexpected surprise as rain fell across various areas on Thursday afternoon.

Heavy rain lashed Al Dhaid on Thursday afternoon while the rest of the country experienced sunny skies.

Weathermen at the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said that the summer rain provided residents with a respite from the heat, as temperatures soared.

The rare showers were brought about by towering cloud formation over at the eastern part of the country.

However, the chance of rainfall in other emirates is very slim, according to the weather forecaster at the NCMS.

“The rain in the eastern region lasted for about 45 minutes, and was caused by a single cell of towering clouds that developed suddenly in that area,” the duty forecaster told Gulf News.

“There is a slight chance of rain in the mountain and eastern areas over the next two days, but the weather will remain the same,” he said.

The rest of the country was warm in general, with maximum temperatures ranging between 39C to 45C in coastal areas, 44C to 49C in internal areas, and 32C to 36C in mountain areas.

Visibility may become poor in exposed areas as light-to-moderate winds, freshening at times, are expected to kick up dust.

Motorists across the are advised to drive with caution as fog and mist is expected to form during the night and on Friday earlymorning due to an increase in humidity.
