Dubai: Weathermen warned motorists of towering clouds with occasional strong wind gust over the country as different intensities of rain hit parts of the UAE overnight and on Sunday.

On Sunday morning, residents woke to partly cloudy skies that became overcast by midday.

The amount of clouds will increase gradually with chance of slight rain especially over the coastal, western and islands areas by Sunday, according to the weather bulletin of the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS).

It drizzled as early as midnight over Ras Al Khaimah while rain also fell on Makassib island in Abu Dhabi on Sunday morning. Light showers were also seen over Al Silaa.

“NCMS warns against towering clouds associated with wind gust reaching 30 knots at times,” an SMS alert from NCMS read.

Strong winds at times may cause blowing dust and reduce poor visibility over open land areas.

The partly cloudy conditions will bring a drop in temperatures. The lowest temperature recorded over the country was at 17.4 degrees Celsius at Jebel Jais at 5am Sunday.

The Arabian Gulf will be moderate while Oman Sea will be slight to moderate.
