Dubai: The weather will warm up slightly after a cold snap gripped the UAE this week, bringing rain and hail to parts of the country, forecasters said.

Cloud cover will also clear up mostly, raising the mercury by a couple of degrees steadily until Friday, said Ahmad Habib, meteorology specialist, National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS).

He added the skies will remain partly cloudy in general, with some expectation of fog and mist in the morning during the weekend.

The weather is becoming more stable but the NCMS warned of “continuity of rough seas in the Arabian Gulf” on Wednesday afternoon.

It also noted the lowest temperature in the UAE on early Wednesday morning was 2C on Jebal Jais, the country’s highest peak, at 4am. Meanwhile, the highest temperature was around 22C on Tuesday in the far south of the UAE’s inland areas, Habib said.

Temperatures fell by five or six degrees between Sunday and Monday as cold north westerly winds from the north of Saudi Arabia pushed down into the UAE. In parts of the country, heavy rain and hail caused traffic disruptions and street flooding.

Three people were killed and several injured on Monday in a spate of traffic accidents reported in Abu Dhabi and Dubai following the rain. Meanwhile, the Dubai International Airport reported seven flights were diverted due to bad weather.

Conditions will be more stable on Thursday and will continue to be so until Saturday, with temperatures rising three to four degrees and skies clearing partly.

“The amount of low clouds will increase over some coastal and northern areas during [Thursday] morning, with a chance of light rain,” NCMS said, expecting “partly cloudy to fair weather in general”.
