Al Ain: Thunderstorms accompanied by moderate to heavy rain yesterday (Sunday) lashed Al Dhaid, Falaj Al Mualla and parts of Sharjah and Fujairah emirates, waterlogging roads and low-lying areas.
Residents in Al Dhaid said the thunderstorm was severe but people enjoyed the short rainy spell. “It’s a rare happening and my children enjoyed playing in the rain,” said Mushtaq Ahmad, a resident of Al Dhaid. He said the weather had been hazy and partly cloudy since morning.
Strong winds also hit different parts of the country, particularly Abu Dhabi emirate, that kicked up dust and sand. Abu Dhabi Police tweeted motorists around midday asking them to drive with caution due to low horizontal visibility. A similar warning was also issued by the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS).
Hanif Khan, a resident of Falaj Al Mualla, said some towering clouds appeared later around noon, giving way to lightning, thunderstorms and rain, he said. The clouds later moved eastward, bringing rain to Fujairah.
According to the NCMS forecast, the weather will be fair in general on Monday and Tuesday with chances of clouds over the eastern areas. The temperature is expected to rise with light to moderately rough winds.
The maximum temperature is likely to be 25 to 38 degrees Celsius in the coastal areas, 26C to 44C in inland areas, and 17C to 32C in mountainous areas.
