Dubai: The international technical review committee of the UAE Research Programme for Rain Enhancement Science will meet on Wednesday and Thursday (May 4-5) in Abu Dhabi to assess the 91 pre-proposals received in the first phase of its second cycle.

In less than two months, the programme witnessed a widened geographical participation in the new cycle. Candidates from 45 countries — including academicians from 15 additional countries such as Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Egypt, Georgia, Hungary, Mexico, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Sweden, and Turkey, sent proposals to the programme.

“This meeting is a milestone in our continuous efforts at the centre to address the water pillar of the National Innovation Strategy. We are pleased to yet again witness a high level of interest from local researchers, with the UAE ranking second for the overall number of pre-proposals submitted this year, right after the United States,” Dr Abdullah Al Mandoos, director of National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology, said.

The committee will announce shortlisted candidates’ proposals on May 17.
