Dubai: Temperatures soared to a high of 47 degrees Celsius on Saturday accompanied by blowing dust, forcing people indoors across the country.

According to the weather report by the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS), the average temperature around the coastal areas was 41 degrees Celsius, but went up to 43 degrees around noon.

City-wise, Abu Dhabi was the hottest with 46C, followed by Sharjah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain at 44C. Dubai and Al Ain witnessed 43C whereas Fujairah was the coolest at 36C.

Internal areas faced the brunt of the weather with highs touching 47C, while lows remained on the higher range of the thirties.

Accompanied by humidity of up to 90 per cent, the mercury shows that summer has hit its peak.

The mountainous areas of the north and east saw relatively cooler climes, with highs of 36C and lows of around 30C.

Mild winds blowing at a speed of 18km/h to 28km/h kicked up dust around desert areas, moving in a northwesterly to north-easterly direction.

Temperatures are expected to remain on the higher side of the forties over the next couple of days.
