Dubai: Hazy and dusty conditions may persist on Tuesday with the addition of scattered rain in parts of the country, the weather bureau has warned.

Dusty conditions may prevail in the country on Tuesday but not as dusty as Monday, a forecaster from the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said. Dust particles suspended in the air blown northeastward reduced visibility in Fujairah by 2,000 metres and in Dubai by 3,000 metres on Monday.

“Clouds may increase late Tuesday night in the northern and eastern parts of the country. This type of cloud is associated with some rain,” the forecaster told Gulf News.

“Moderate to light rain in general may hit parts of the country, especially in the northern and eastern parts like Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah by Tuesday night,” he added.

Scattered parts of Dubai and Abu Dhabi may expect some light showers as well. The same weather conditions are expected to last until Thursday morning.

The temperature will drop by four to five degrees Celsius over the same period, bringing the maximum temperature to around 29C to 30C.

This weather pattern is reflective of the transition season, which the country is going through right now.

The recurrent dusty conditions for the past two weeks have seen a significant increase in respiratory illnesses in Dubai, said Dr Sreekumar Sreedharan, specialist internal medicine at Aster Clinic.

“The number of patients coming to us for treatment for allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma has significantly increased for the past two weeks due to the climactic variations and the time of year, when it’s very common to have viral infections,” Dr Sreedharan told Gulf News.

Dr Sreedharan advised people who have a history of allergy and a tendency for recurring respiratory infections to stay indoors as much as possible and avoid crowded areas. If they need to go outside, wearing protective masks will be of some help, he said.

On Tuesday night and early morning, relative humidity will increase over some internal and coastal areas, that may cause foggy conditions.

The weather bureau warned the public against heading out to sea as the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea will be moderate to rough on Tuesday and rough on Wednesday.
