Dubai: Travelers on land and sea in the UAE are being advised to take care in coming days as cloud, winds and rain in some areas continue to create reduced visibility in some areas, say meteorologists.

Northwesterly winds on Thursday brought to the UAE higher levels of sand and suspended dust particles from Iraq and Iran reducing visibility by up to 1.5 kilometres in coastal and inland areas of the country, said Dr. Ahmed Habib, meteorologist with the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology.

“There is a warning for drivers to take care because visibility will be poor at times,” Habib said.

Similar weather conditions are expected to remain through to Saturday, especially in the eastern parts of the country, he said.

Habib said on Friday, “the wind will shift to the east. This wind will be fresh and strong. It will be blowing sand and dust again.”

Winds will reach up to 55km/h making passage in Gulf waters as well as the Oman Sea difficult as well with the forecast calling for rough seas with waves reaching more than two metres.

Relative humidity was expected to rise overnight and into early Friday morning.

Isolated rain showers are also expected in the east and northeast Friday and perhaps on Saturday as well.

The long-range forecast expects “hazy and partly cloudy over some areas. The amount of clouds will increase to the east with a chance of some convective clouds. Moderate to fresh winds causing blowing dust and poor visibility over some areas.
