Al Ain: Rain and dusty winds are expected to hit the UAE as a fresh spell of unstable weather has entered the country, say forecasters.

Motorists have been advised to be extra carefull while driving in the rain.

The system resulted in light rain in Dubai on Tuesday morning that took many residents by surprise. Rain is expected in the coastal areas of Abu Dhabi and Dubai under the new system that will gradually strengthen, resulting in more showers on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, according to the weather bulletin of the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS).

Strong southerly and south-easterly winds have been affecting the UAE since Monday evening. The wind kicked up dust and sand and reduced horizontal visibility in open areas. It was just 800 metres at Al Maktoum Airport. The wind change also caused the mercury to rise by around four to six degrees, reaching a maximum of 39.4C in some areas.

“The weather is expected to be dusty and partly cloudy at times on Wednesday. The amount of cloud will increase gradually by afternoon with the possibility of rain over some areas, especially in the coastal and northern areas at night,” said the NCMS.

The unstable weather is expected to continue on Thursday and Friday with dusty and partly cloudy to cloudy conditions across the country. Scattered rain is likely on Thursday in different areas with an increased intensity at night, said the centre’s bulletin.

The weather will ease gradually by early Saturday morning, especially in the western emirates, with a possibility of some rain in the northern and eastern regions. The sea will be rough and seafarers have been advised to take extra caution in the Arabian Gulf and in the Sea of Oman.
