Dubai: Coastal and inland maximum temperatures of between 44 and 47 degrees Celsius in the UAE may feel hotter than usual given an increase in relative humidity, especially along the coastal areas, said weather forecasters.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology based in Abu Dhabi forecast hot and humid weather for Sunday morning and evening as the relative humidity climbs despite light winds expected during the day and some cloud cover.

Humidity levels predicted until 9am on Sunday by the weather centre range from a maximum of 65-95 per cent in coastal areas to 45-80 per cent in internal areas. The humidity levels will be lower for mountainous areas at 40-55 per cent.

“The relative humidity will increase by night and early morning over some coastal areas, especially the western [areas],” said the weather centre in a statement.

The centre said Sunday’s conditions will see “partly cloudy weather over some eastern and mountainous areas with a probability of some convective clouds by afternoon. Light to moderate winds in general may freshen at times, with slight to moderate waves in the Arabian Gulf and moderate in Oman Sea.”

Temperatures are expected to climb only to a maximum of 37C in the mountainous areas of UAE, according to the forecast.
