Abu Dhabi: The very high temperatures experienced across the UAE last week are expected to stay for the next few days. However, the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has denied rumours circulating on social media that temperatures will reach unbearable levels in the GCC countries in the coming days.
In a statement NCMS said that the rumours stating that temperatures will reach intolerable levels — between 51 and 70 degrees Celsius — are untrue. They urged people to ignore information on social media that is not based on official statements from the NCMS.
Average temperatures in the internal areas are expected to be between 44 and 47 degrees Celsius in the coming days, reaching a maximum of 49 degrees Celsius, a forecaster from NCMS told Gulf News.
Average temperatures in the coastal areas are expected to be between 39 and 43 degrees Celsius with a maximum of 47 degrees Celsius, while mountainous areas can expect cooler temperatures of 32 to 36 degrees Celsius.
Humidity will remain high at around 90 to 95 per cent in the western coastal areas and 60 to 75 per cent in the eastern areas.
The highest recorded temperature in the UAE on Saturday was in Qasyoura at 49.8 degrees Celsius.
The forecaster said these temperatures are normal for the UAE in the months of July and August.
NCMS advised people to be careful if they are out at noon.
