Dubai: Different intensities of rain lashed central and interior parts of Abu Dhabi emirate and parts of Dubai on Thursday afternoon and forecasters expect the same on Friday afternoon.

Satellite monitoring of the rain clouds over the UAE at 4pm showed heavy rain over Al Ain, moderate to heavy showers over Al Lisaili, Margham, Nazwa and Nahel, and over Al Aweer in Dubai.

“The country during this time is influenced by the humid south-easterly flow that is colliding with the northwesterly flow along coastal areas, causing clouds to develop in the central inland parts of the country and bringing rain between Abu Dhabi and Al Ain,” a forecaster from the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) told Gulf News.

The NCMS warned Abu Dhabi and Al Ain residents on Thursday against “rainy towering clouds, associated with lightning and thunder at times”.

Light to moderate winds will kick up dust in exposed areas as well.

The confluence of the two different air masses — the humid and hot south-easterly wind and the northwesterly flow — is causing the rise in temperatures which is now slightly above 40 degree Celsius.

“We do expect the same clouds to develop on Friday and these clouds may be embedded with rain by afternoon,” the forecaster said.

The sea will be slightly rough in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea on Friday.
