Dubai: Heavy rain lashed the eastern part of the UAE on Sunday afternoon, with some areas reporting hail, the national weather bureau said.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said heavy showers accompanied by hail hit the town of Al Qur in Ras Al Khaimah near Hatta, while there were heavy showers in Hatta, Masfoot and Mezeira.

Forecasters said chances of rainy afternoons will persist until Tuesday in the eastern and southern areas of the country. These are due to convective clouds forming by afternoon, associated with rainfall.

Hot weather, hazy at times, will continue to persist over the country on Monday and Tuesday. Winds will be light to moderate in general.

Relative humidity will increase over western coastal areas while the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea will be slight to moderate.
