Dubai: Heavy rain accompanied by hail lashed Muhadha near Al Ain along the UAE border while intense showers were also recorded in Khatam Al Shakla on Friday afternoon.

“Muhadha is adjacent to the border of the UAE and, in the afternoon, convective [clouds] started to develop there that brought rain and light hail to the area,” a forecaster at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology told Gulf News.

The cloud cover expanded and brought heavy showers amounting to 25.8 mm of rainfall in Al Ain’s neighbouring towns like Khatam Al Shakla, which is to the east of Jebel Hafeet and close to the Oman border. Al Fuah received 0.4mm of rain as of 5.30 pm.

There is a prediction for more rain in the eastern region on Saturday, with convective clouds expected to accumulate by the afternoon.

Visibility dropped to around 1,500 metres in Al Dhadra and near Abu Dhabi Airport on Friday and to less than 500 metre in open areas in the interior regions due to the southeasterly wind, which will continue to have an effect, carrying dust into some areas on Saturday morning.
