Abu Dhabi: A significant drop in temperature recorded across most areas of the UAE on Saturday was expected to last until Monday.

According to a meteorologist at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology, the fall in temperature is a result of high pressure winds from the north.

“In Abu Dhabi, we have seen a decrease of nine degrees Celsius and in some western parts, the temperature is expected to fall by 10 degrees Celsius,” he told Gulf News.

The winds started blowing from about 5am on Saturday, and were particularly strong over the sea at 55km/h. Waves also reached heights of about 14 feet.

Across coastal areas, including Abu Dhabi, there were fresh winds. These caused the temperature to fall from Friday’s recorded 41 degrees Celsius to 32 degrees Celsius today (Saturday). Similar decreases are also expected to be seen in other coastal cities.

In the west of the country, these winds blew sand, reducing visibility. For example, visibility was reduced to just 4,000 metres in Al Hamra area.

“High pressure from the north is interacting with low pressure in the Gulf and creating these winds. We expect the situation to last until midday on Monday (April 27),” the meteorologist said.

While it is expected to be pleasant outdoors due to the lower temperatures, motorists are advised to be cautious due to lowered visibility on the roads. In addition, care should be taken when venturing out to sea.
