Dubai: Heavy fog and mist hit various parts of the UAE on Monday morning, leading to heavy tailbacks and congestion on many busy roads.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said that the fog mostly affected Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and completely blanketed the roads in Al Minhad, Suweihan, and near Al Maktoum International Airport.

Due to the low visibility on roads, accidents were reported on Ras Al Khor Road and on Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road near Mirdif.

There were also heavy tailbacks on Emirates Road heading from Sharjah to Dubai.

Weather forecasters at the NCMS said that while the weather will continue to be hazy during the day, fog and mist will continue to affect the UAE morning until Thursday.

Over the next three days, temperatures are expected to peak at 43 degrees Celsius in internal areas and 38 degrees Celsius along coastal areas.

But residents will be able to get some sort of respite from the heat as temperatures are expected to drop to 16-22 degrees Celsius late at night and into the early morning.

The NCMS on Monday said in its daily weather forecast that mild to moderate southeasterly winds will also continue to affect the UAE until end of the week.

The level of humidity is expected to increase slightly in the morning, which is the main cause of the fog over the coastal and internal areas. Humidity is expected to peak at 90 per cent in internal areas and 95 per cent in the coastal areas during the day, according to the NCMS.
