Dubai: It might rain on Sunday afternoon just as many schools reopen this week, but the weather won’t disrupt classes, a weather forecaster said.

Various parts of the country witnessed heavy to light rain on Friday and Saturday, with Shoka, which is close to Masafi, getting the heaviest downpour at a recorded 21mm. Different intensities of rain were witnessed in the eastern, western, and southwestern parts of the country such as Madinat Zayed.

“Weather on Sunday will be less [severe] than on Saturday. It might rain in the eastern part of the country but towards the latter part of the day. The weather situation will not affect the opening of classes,” a forecaster at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology told Gulf News.

Cloud cover may be spotted in some areas with moderate to fresh winds.

The rain clouds were brought about by the sea breeze coming from the Oman Sea and blocked by the mountains, causing them to condense and form into convective clouds.

Dubai didn’t witness any rainfall on Friday and Saturday but was affected by the gusty winds that blew dust and sand, reducing visibility on Shaikh Zayed Road to less than 1km. In Mezyad, horizontal visibility was reduced to less than 100 metres due to the dust storm.

The weather is expected to clear on Monday morning, when it will be partly cloudy by afternoon.
