Dubai: The southern and north-eastern areas of the country may experience thunder and rain Sunday, the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) warned.

An official from NCMS said the thunder and rain clouds will not affect the coastal areas or the cities.

“Generally, we’re looking at partly cloudy weather,” he said. “Clouds will amass over the northern areas during the day, with another slight fall in temperatures.”

The NCMS official said moderate to fresh winds will blow across the country, gaining momentum over the sea. “Exposed areas may be subject to blowing dust and sand, thus reducing visibility.”

Relative humidity will increase at night and early morning, he said, with a chance of fog formation. “The sea will be rough, gradually becoming moderate by Sunday night in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.”

Coastal areas will experience temperatures reaching average highs of 30 degrees Celsius and lows of 20 degrees. Internal areas will have slightly warmer temperatures during the day, with highs between 31 and 34 degrees, and cooler nights reaching 14 degrees. Mountainous areas will have average highs between 16-22 degrees and lows between 11 and 17 degrees.
