Dubai: The country’s weather bureau has warned residents against surfing the sea and urged motorists to drive safe as Wednesday’s sandy conditions are expected to last until at least Thursday afternoon.

“The conditions will be partly cloudy and dusty in general but the cloudiness will decrease by Thursday afternoon. However moderate to fresh winds, causing some blowing of dust over the open areas will reduce horizontal visibility at times,” a forecaster from the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) told XPRESS on Wednesday morning when parts of the country were swept by a severe sandstorm with strong winds kicking up sand and dust.

Poor visibility

“In addition, the seas will be rough in the Arabian Gulf and Oman sea, The relative humidity will increase over some internal and coastal areas during night and early morning time with a probability of fog,” he added, urging drivers to take caution on roads as poor visibility could last either due to dust particles, fog or even rain over some parts on Thursday.
