Dubai: Two new community centres catering to thousands of residents in the New Dubai area have opened in Jumeirah Park and Discovery Gardens.

“Our community centres at Jumeirah Park and Discovery Gardens are due to be fully open and operational in the third quarter of 2014. A number of outlets at both centres are already open, with the rest in the final phases of fit-out,” said Rebecca Rees, a spokesperson for developer Nakheel.

“The two centres, the first of several neighbourhood retail centres from Nakheel, will offer new places to meet, dine and socialise. It will also offer a range of convenience stores and services. The two community centres are part of our ongoing commitment to enhance the lifestyle in our communities,” she added.

Discovery Pavillions, the new community mall in Discovery Gardens, is expected to serve around 24,000 homes in Nakheel’s Al Furjan, Discovery Gardens and The Gardens developments.

According to the developer, nearly 6,000 square metres of the total 8,700 square metres space will be occupied by more than 20 local and international retailers and restaurants. Geekay Games, Beauty Corner, Tito, Champion Cleaners, Burger King, Texas Chicken, Arabian Grill are some outlets which have already opened in the Discovery Pavillions.

Outlets to open soon include Geant, Bin Sina Pharmacy, Papa Murphy’s Pizza and Chappan Bhog.

Another community mall, Jumeirah Park Pavillions will cater to residents in Jumeirah Park, Jumeirah Village and Jumeirah Islands. Geant is expected to open here soon while a host of other retail outlets have already opened here. Tim Horton’s, Gloria Jeans, Menchies, Geekay Games, Sasha Salon, Hair Station, Champion Cleaners and Peony Flowers are some of the stores in operation here.

Residents are pleased with the opening of the community centres. “It is great that we now have this shopping centre close to us. All this time we have had to go all the way to Ibn Batuta to shop there. I cannot wait for Geant to open here,” said Meera Jain, a Discovery Gardens resident.

“Having a dedicated community centre close to you is a boon. We usually shop at the Meadows or the Springs Village, but now we have a dedicated shopping centre which is greatWe usually head off to Dubai Marina Mall to grab a bite but now we do not have to travel that far,” said Monica Thomas, a Jumeirah Islands resident.
