Dubai: Drivers faced heavy congestion and further delays on their morning commute with as many as nine major accidents in hour on Dubai’s busy roads. 

With humidity levels of up to 95 per cent on Tuesday morning, the fog was the most likely culprit for the large number of accidents - due to poor road visibility.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology also issued a cautionary message to motorists, advising them to take extra care while driving as visibility was reduced to 500 metres across coastal and internal areas of the UAE.

Multiple accidents were reported on the major routes from Sharjah into Dubai, on Al Ittihad Road, in addition to a number of roads that are popular used by school buses and morning commuters.

Other major accidents were also reported on the E611 Emirates Road near Al Aweer, Abu Dhabi bound, causing massive congestion and tailbacks to drivers, as well as on Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed (MBZ) Road near the E44 Al Aweer intersection.

The patience of motorists were also tested after a number of accidents took place on Umm Suqeim Road near Al Barsha South towards Jumeirah, on Shaikh Zayed Road after the First Gulf Bank Metro Station, and on Hessa Street before the Al Khail intersection.  

Another accident that caused heavy tailbacks was along Shaikh Zayed Road, before the Al Manara interchange towards the World Trade Centre.

The dense fog also affected areas in Sports City, Airport Road and Rebat Street, which further aggravated the morning traffic congestion.  

Motorists were also advised to drive with caution after an accident took place on MBZ Road near Global Village, which affected drivers heading towards Sharjah.
