Abu Dhabi: A school bus in the capital was involved in an accident today (October 24) but no serious injuries were reported, Gulf News has learnt.

The bus belongs to an Indian curriculum private school located in Mohammad Bin Zayed City. The school’s principal informed parents in a note that “two students and staff members are receiving treatment [at a] hospital”.

“I have visited the site of the accident and the students are cared for, safe and recovering. As per school policy, we will conduct a thorough investigation of the incident. We would like to reassure all parents that incidents of this nature are rare and your children are safe on school transport,” the note continued.

Comments from Abu Dhabi Police and the Abu Dhabi Education Council, which regulates education in the emirate, were not available before print deadline.

Last month, two private school buses and a public shuttle bus collided on the way to school, injuring 47 people, including 39 children. In a statement, traffic officials said the buses had been speeding and had failed to maintain a safe distance.

All the children who were hospitalised following the incident on September 29 were discharged within two weeks.
