Dubai: Motorists on Thursday found themselves in crawling traffic due to heavy congestion that clogged a number of busy routes in the UAE.

Hessa Street was affected after an accident was reported in the direction heading towards Shaikh Zayed Road, causing a major traffic jam all the way to Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed (MBZ) Road.

The busy Dubai-Al Ain Road also faced traffic delays, with gridlocked traffic also affecting commuters on Al Awir Road Dubai from International City to the Nad Al Hamar Road.

An accident was also reported on Umm Suqeim Rd near Mall of Emirates, causing congestion and further tailbacks on Al Khail Road.

Police in Dubai also cautioned motorists to follow traffic rules, and to use their indicators when changing lanes to avoid accidents.

Drivers faced tailbacks along Al Khail Road near Al Quoz Pond Park, and were also stalled on Al Rebat Street near Mirdif after an accident was reported in the area.

In Abu Dhabi, an accident was reported on Shaikh Zayed Street Road before the Saada Bridge, which resulted in the closure of the left lane.

Motorists were advised to take alternative routes and proceed with caution.
