Abu Dhabi:
A trolley bag lying on the middle of the street created chaos on the busy Electra Street in Abu Dhabi on Thursday afternoon.
Traffic was blocked for almost an hour as police removed the bag from the street and carried it in their vehicle. The incident happened at around 2:30pm in front of Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank headquarters on Electra Street. It is not known what was inside the bag and how it landed on the middle of the street.
An onlooker who was at the scene said the police first scanned the bag and moved it to the side of the road before opening it.
“I don’t think they found anything suspicious inside. They took the bag in their car,” he said.
The operation lasted for an hour in front of the bank on the busy street.
People in their vehicles were left stranded as the search went on. Police cordoned off the area and blocked traffic from all sides to carry out the operation. The road was opened to traffic at around 3:30pm.
Police could not be reached for an immediate comment.
