Dubai: Dubai’s sprawling transport network is set to expand further with the addition of seven new routes from Tuesday, including two Metro links.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Saturday announced that its expansion programme will also see changes to 24 routes reaching different parts of the city.

Explaining the move, Mohammad Abu Baker Al Hashemi, Director of Planning and Business Development at the RTA’s Public Transport Agency, said, “[The] RTA is opting to broaden and improve the public bus network in a quick response to the needs of public bus [commuters]. The move is also prompted by the ongoing urbanisation and business development in Dubai.”

He added that two of the seven routes — F19A and F19B — will provide direct connectivity with the metro serving the Business Bay district, passing through several hotspots in the area. The service will be running at a 10-minute interval on all weekdays except for Friday.

The other five new routes include two regular urban routes and three express routes — Route 25, Route 95, X02, X22 and X24.

Route 25 will serve Al Qusais Industrial and Airport Terminal Two via Damascus Street at 20-minute intervals.

Route 95 will connect Gold Souq Bus Station to Dubai Waterfront at Jebel Ali running via Shaikh Khalifa Street and Al Jafiliya Metro station. Running along Shaikh Zayed Road, it will also serve Ibn Battuta Metro station and Jebel Ali Industrial.

The service, which will also be available on Fridays, will run at 60-minute intervals.

The Express Route X02 will run between Al Ghubaiba Station and Satwa at 15-minute intervals, while Route X22 will serve Al Qusais Industrial and Al Nahda, heading all the way to the Business Bay Metro station, Dubai Mall and the Business Bay District.

The service will be running from Saturday to Thursday only at 30-minute intervals.

The Express Route X24 will operate between Al Nahda 1 station and the Union Metro station via Salah Al Din Street. The service will run at 15-minute intervals from Sunday to Thursday and at 20-minute intervals on Saturday.
