Dubai: Emirates said on Wednesday it is cancelling its flights to Hong Kong on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the Hato tropical storm, after the airline cancelled a flight heading there on Tuesday.

In a statement on its website, Emirates said it was cancelling flights on August 22 and 23, and is currently monitoring the situation in Hong Kong.

“We are monitoring the situation closely, and aim to give customers as much notice as possible if there are any further changes to our operations. Passengers holding tickets to/from Hong Kong are advised to contact their local Emirates office and check the status of their flight [on the Emirates website],” the carrier stated.

Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways, meanwhile, delayed a flight to Hong Kong on Tuesday because of the storm. An airline spokesperson told Gulf News there haven’t been advisories so far to cancel any flights to Hong Kong.
