Dubai: There are no new cameras attached to lamp posts that catch drivers talking or using their mobile phones in Dubai, police confirmed.

A video showing a small camera mounted on a lamp post flashing a light at a passing car and a message saying that this is a new camera that catches people on their phone has been circulating on social media.

The message also said that motorist caught by this camera would be fined Dh1,000 and given 12 black points.

A source from Dubai Police said these were rumours and no such cameras have been installed in the city.

The fine for using a hand-held mobile phone while driving is Dh200 and four black points.
