Sharjah: Getting your driver’s licence in Sharjah has become a whole lot easier.

In a statement issued by Sharjah Police, they say motorists will now receive their driver’s licence without having to visit the Sharjah Traffic and Licensing Department.

Effective as of September 18, the new rules mean that once motorists pass their final road test, they have to log on to the Ministry of Interior’s website www.moi.gov.ae to obtain their licence.

A payment transaction is required before motorists can expect to receive their driver's licence by courier.

As a result of the changes, the Traffic and Licensing Department will not receive any payments in person, now that the ministry’s smart app will be responsible for processing all electronic related procedures.

“Driving licences will now only be issued online and will not be handed over to motorists in person,” said an official at Sharjah Police, who also pointed out that the new e-service was launched to ease the process of obtaining licences.

The ministry of interior’s application can also be downloaded on mobile phones.
