Dubai: Police in Abu Dhabi have arrested a stunt driver for endangering the lives of pedestrians when he almost ran over them.
An official at the Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate said the young Arab motorist, accompanied by two passengers, was driving a pick-up truck without a licence plate.
The motorist was carrying out dangerous stunts and according to CCTV footage, almost ran over pedestrians while driving recklessly.
Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Abdullah Al Suwaidi, deputy director of the Department of Traffic at the Traffic and Patrols Department of Abu Dhabi Police, said the driver had also put his own life in danger, and was arrested after crashing into a ditch at the Bani Yas area in Abu Dhabi.
The two passengers were also arrested, and the vehicle was seized.

According to the UAE’s amended federal traffic law, reckless driving can lead to the confiscation of the vehicle for 60 days apart from a fine of Dh2,000 and 23 black points.
In a bid to curb reckless driving, police have deployed a number of patrols and installed surveillance cameras across Abu Dhabi to catch motorists red-handed.
