Dubai: Winners of the 10th Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST) will by honoured by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Wednesday.

Victor Calise, commissioner at New York City Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, will be the guest of honour and keynote speaker at the award ceremony, which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Awarded to both individuals and groups, the award aims to encourage community organisations to play an active role in supporting sustainable transport, and re-asserting the leading role of the RTA in forging partnerships with various parties.

The award also contributes to bringing attention of various organisations and the local media to sustainable transport.

“The DAST has seen extensive evolution in the process of keeping pace with the massive improvement projects and initiatives of the RTA. It has also broadened the scope of participation in the award to enable the largest possible number of government and semi-government organisations as well as private companies to contribute to the improvement of sustainable transport drive in the UAE side by side with RTA’s efforts in this regard,” said Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA.
