Dubai: Two women and a child were killed while five others were injured in separate accidents due to foggy weather in Dubai on Saturday.

Revealing details of the accidents, Col Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Dubai Traffic Police, said: “The two women and child died after a car drifted out of its lane on the main Hatta road on Saturday. Another woman was also severely injured and was taken to the hospital to receive treatment.”

Col Al Mazroui said motorists should take extra precautions during foggy weather. “Another eight unrelated accidents occurred on Shaikh Zayed Road. A total of 70 vehicles were involved in the accidents, which caused injuries to four people. Most of them occurred because the drivers were going over the designated speed limit and not leaving a safe distance between vehicles. This is especially necessary during foggy weather as visibility is poor and maintaining control over the vehicle is trickier.”

Col Al Mazroui provided a breakdown of Saturday’s accidents: “Four of the accidents occurred on Shaikh Zayed Road heading towards Dubai, where a total of 55 vehicles were damaged. Another four occurred on the opposite side and involved 15 vehicles. Four people were moderately injured in these collisions and were hospitalised.”

Col Al Mazroui said traffic patrols were quick to respond to the accidents and also took the necessary measures to ease traffic congestion caused by the fog.

“Our officers patrolled the city since early Saturday morning to ease the traffic flow and avoid bottlenecks. They were also quick to respond to the accidents. Again, we urge drivers to pay attention and drive at safe speeds during low visibility.”
