Dubai: Nol and Salik top up are among the 30 new services now available on smartphones after the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) launched five new apps that will also allow the registration of vehicles and renewal of driving licences, Gulf News can confirm.

RTA launched the five apps – Smart Salik, Smart Parking, Public Transport, Drivers and Vehicles as well as Corporate Services – as part of the Smart City initiative launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Following the launch of the new services the RTA now has eight smart applications including Wojhati, RTA Dubai and Smart Taxi, which was launched recently.

The RTA aims to offer 200 of its services through smartphones by May 2015, of which 53 are now live.

The new applications will make life easier for motorists as well as public transport users, offering a wide array of services on the go.

Smart Parking will allow payment for parking, bypassing the current SMS system that involves a service charge of 30 fils. It will also allow the application and renewal of seasonal parking cards.

Smart Salik will allow motorists to maintain a Salik account through mobile, making top ups, paying fines, disputing violations as well as checking on the number of trips made through toll gates. Drivers can also add new vehicles to their account and top up a friend’s account.

The Public Transport app will provide comprehensive information about the various means of transport available in Dubai along with fares, locations of metro stations and bus stops as well as live updates. It will also allow the direct payment of fares via NFC-enabled phones.

The Drivers and Vehicles app will allow users to apply for new and renew a driving licence, and register their vehicle.

The Corporate Services app will allow companies to request advertisements and enquire about leasing retail outlets.
