Abu Dhabi: A total of 12,760 new parking spaces have been set up across the capital’s Mohammad Bin Zayed City, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City announced in a statement on Wednesday.

Another 9,155 spaces will be completed by the end of December 2016 in order to cater to the needs of the growing community in the suburb.

Mohammad Bin Zayed City, which is a 40-minute drive from the Abu Dhabi city centre, spans an area of 3.49 square kilometres, and is currently home to more than 125,320 residents. Once it is completely set up, the suburb is expected to accommodate about 215,000 people. The majority of residents are Emirati.

According to details provided by the municipality, the recently completed projects include a 3-km-long dual carriageway linking two residential zones. Street lighting and traffic signals were also placed.

In future, 18 kilometres of roadways will also be upgraded, while a rainwater drainage network and pavements will be constructed. Street lights will also be included to light up residential neighbourhoods.
