Dubai: The Dh10.8 billion Midfield Terminal at Abu Dhabi International is gearing up toward a December 2017 opening.

Construction on the 700,000 square metre Midfield Terminal building is going ahead as scheduled, and is expected to be 90 per cent complete by the end of the year.
According to previous Gulf News reports, the Midfield Terminal is part of a nearly Dh40 billion expansion of Abu Dhabi International Airport.
The new terminal will accommodate the rapidly expanding Etihad Airways and several of the international airlines it holds stakes in.

Abu Dhabi International handled 23.3 million passengers in 2015, and expects to handle 26 million passengers this year.
The Midfield Terminal is being built by a joint venture between Dubai-based company Arabtec, Turkish construction firm TAC and Greece’s Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC). Construction started in 2013, according to the airport’s website.
Situated between the two runways at the Abu Dhabi International Airport, the terminal is expected to be the largest architectural structure in Abu Dhabi, visible from more than 1.5 km away.
At its widest, the roof of the structure will span 319 metres and its 18 arches, the largest of which is 180 metres wide and five metres high.
