Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the expansion of the abra service on Dubai Fountain Lake by launching the Burj Plaza station, which will enable more visitors to view the Dubai Fountain shows.

Work is also in progress to launch a new station for residents of The Palace Hotel.

Abras operate from 6pm-11 pm during weekdays. Each abra has a capacity to accommodate seven to nine riders. Tickets, which cost Dh65 per person, are obtainable from the self-service kiosk beside each station.

“Launching Burj Plaza station for the electric abra aims to attract more riders to the abra by providing a superb platform, offering them a panoramic view of the fascinating shows of the Dubai Fountain Lake at Burj Khalifa. About 478 journeys have been made from the Burj Plaza station since it launched, serving around 1,565 riders,” said Mansour Al Falasi, director, Marine Transport, RTA Public Transport Agency.

Work is nearing completion on a new marine station to serve guests of The Palace Hotel, offering them “access to a hassle-free viewing experience of the Fountain shows”.

He added: “RTA Marine Transport Department always seeks to run initiatives aimed at impacting and orienting the culture of all community members towards using marine transit modes.

“Considering the rising number of viewers of the Dubai Fountain at Burj Khalifa, we opted to launch the Burj Plaza station, and at the same time mull the opening of more stations to broaden the abra service on this line.

“The Dubai Fountain Lake shows are hugely popular, thanks to the fantastic shows and the associated optical enjoyment, which prompts us to further expand the abra network.”
