Dubai: A first of its kind professional drama, a unique kite-making workshop and other entertainment activities with a food safety theme will be the highlights of the Dubai Health and Food Safety Festival taking place this weekend.
The second edition of the initiative to mark the Innovation Week by Dubai Municipality’s Food Safety Department will take place at the Kite Beach from 3pm to 7pm on Friday and Saturday.
Beach soccer, a reading corner, live cooking, an art jam session, body checkups and much more will be offered at the venue to spread the messages of health, food safety and nutrition among residents in a fun-filled way, an official told Gulf News.
“We have a lot of guidelines and strict regulations for the food industry. But it is important to educate families and other members of the community as well about food safety. So we want to offer something they can understand in a fun way,” said Shugufta M. Zubair, senior food safety awareness support officer with the department.
The festival will also have platforms for hypermarkets to showcase how they undertook food safety awareness campaigns, and for training companies to hold talks about general food safety issues at homes and for schools to participate in competitions.
“We have made a lot of animation videos for awareness campaigns earlier. This time we want it to be a live event so that the whole family can connect with it faster. So, we will have professional theatre artists presenting a drama in which they will enact a food poisoning scenario and convey messages of different aspects of food safety,” said Zubair, urging residents to participate in the festival with their families.
“We will also host kite-making workshops and live cooking classes for kids through which our inspectors will explain messages of healthy food and food safety to them in a fun-filled way. Each kite made by kids will carry a food safety message.”
