Dubai: Final preparations are now underway for the New Year’s Eve festivities in Downtown Dubai, as property developer Emaar gears up to make a world record attempt to ring in 2018.

Emaar announced on Monday that hundreds of skilled professionals have been working round-the-clock to put on a grand show at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Dubbed “Light Up 2018,” the “spectacle” is set to be an official Guinness World Records title attempt, and Emaar has promised that it will be an event to remember.

And to show just how serious it is in delivering its promise, the developer released a behind-the-scenes video of the elaborate preparations that are taking place.

The clip was released just a few days after a social media frenzy broke over speculations that the traditional pyrotechnics display at Burj Khalifa will be replaced by a light show.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of revellers watch the fireworks at Burj Khalifa, but the developer hinted that this time around, the celebration will be different.

The developer did not confirm that the pyrotechnics display is now off the table, but it assured that New Year’s Eve revellers are in for a “spectacle” that will break world records.

“We have several surprises in store this year. We’re lighting up the sky and celebrating the New Year with an innovative performance that will dazzle the world and put the global spotlight on the UAE and Dubai,” Downtown Dubai said.

In its latest statement, Emaar said a team of global professionals are working non-stop  for the festivities.

“With a team of global professionals working round-the-clock, the “Light Up 2018” spectacle will celebrate the UAE’s achievements and pay tribute to the founding father of the nation, the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to mark the ‘Year of Zayed’ in 2018,” Emaar said.

The New Year’s Eve celebrations will start from 5pm with the Dubai Fountain shows and live deejay, and continue till 1am.
