Dubai: The US election is over, the 45th president has been chosen, and now, Americans say it is time for a vacation.

Following the surprise victory of Donald Trump as President-elect, US citizens are rushing to book their flight tickets.

While international media reports have confirmed that Americans crashed the Canadian immigration site on Election Day – following the first indicators that Trump would be president – other travel destinations are also on the cards.

Travel planning and booking site TripAdvisor recently announced the top 10 international destinations with the greatest hotel booking activity among US travellers on November 9, the day after the US presidential election.

Dubai topped the list as the city with the most hotel bookings in the world, while the UAE was the most popular destination outside North America, which was ranked at third place.

America’s neighbors drew the greatest interest, with Mexico seeing the most booking activity, followed by Canada.

“After this long and intense election, travelers were out in full force researching and booking on TripAdvisor after placing their votes,” said Brooke Ferencsik, senior director of communications for TripAdvisor.
