Dubai: Over 50 students from Zayed University have joined the ‘Weleef’ programme, which will see them pay visits to elderly UAE nationals who live alone in Dubai.

Launched by the Dubai Community Development Authority (CDA) back in 2011, the programme provides care and aims to improve the quality of life of the elderly.

Khalid Hussain Abdullah, head of Home Care at CDA, said the initiative aims to increase students’ social responsibility towards their community. “Volunteers will complete a minimum of an hour per week when visiting the elderly. They chat, serve and help the elderly around their place of residence,” he said.
