Dubai: Two Emirati child prodigies have already packed their bags and are ready to obtain a university degree in the US.
Adeeb Al Balushi, 13, and his 11-year-old sister Dana are the first two Emirati students to be enrolled at the Charter College of Education, at the California State University in Los Angeles.
This is the first time that the university has accepted two children from the region to join its program, which “offers a coordinated, transdisciplinary approach to the education of children and youth.”
On the college website, it states that the faculty “prepares professionals to become learner advocates who show competence in subject matter, professional knowledge, and skills and are dedicated to improving the educational environment of all children and youth.”
The program accepts children between the ages of 11 and 15, and once graduated with a university degree, are able to pursue their postgraduate studies.
Abdullah Sabousi, UAE's Consul General in Los Angeles, received the Al Balushi family and praised them for their unique achievement, and urged them to continue their progress in representing the UAE in the international arena.
This is not the first time that the siblings made headlines in the UAE.
By the age of nine, Adeeb was recognised by authorities for inventing a light-weight prosthetic limb for his father, as well as a cleaning robot to assist his mother in household chores.
He also invented a fireproof helmet with a camera system to help see in emergencies.
Dana previously received recognition for being the youngest Emirati to experience training at the US-based National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
