Abu Dhabi: Cartoon characters Tom and Jerry made a special appearance at the bedsides of scores of children on Tuesday morning at an Abu Dhabi hospital to bring smiles, laughter and fun to the youngsters during their treatment.

The famous cat and mouse team gave gifts to the young patients and posed for photographs with doctors and nurses at the Shaikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), said a press release issued by Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) on Thursday.

TCA Abu Dhabi organised the event as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, exhibiting the authority’s commitment to provide initiatives, which support outreach activities to the community for the 2017 Abu Dhabi Summer Season.

The visit was arranged in association with SKMC and MBC Group, which is bringing the live Tom and Jerry Crystal Quest show to Abu Dhabi and Al Ain as part of the emirate-wide Abu Dhabi Summer Season, which started on Thursday and continues till August 20.

“Taking Tom and Jerry to visit the children gives everyone enormous pleasure, mostly, of course, the children, but also their families and the staff working so hard for them at SKMC,” said Mubarak Al Shamsi from TCA Abu Dhabi.

“As the organiser of the annual summer season, which is a fun-filled month of entertainment and fun, we take it upon ourselves to help others who are not so fortunate and cannot get out and about and enjoy the programme of activities. We are delighted to make the youngsters’ time in hospital a little more comfortable and take their minds off their illnesses.”

Tom and Jerry, the much-loved comic duo, which first hit US television screens in the 1940s, is now appearing at Al Raha Beach Theatre in Abu Dhabi till Saturday and at Al Ain Municipality Theatre in Al Ain from July 27 to 29.
