Dubai: A new waterfront attraction will open its doors to residents and visitors in Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah in the next few weeks.

Nakheel’s 11km Boardwalk will transform Palm Jumeirah’s crescent into a vibrant destination for walking, shopping and dining.

The Dh150-million attraction will include an East and West Pier, each stretching 100 metres out to sea, featuring glass-encased cafes and restaurant with views of the Arabian Gulf, Palm Jumeirah, and the Dubai skyline. Constructed at either end of the crescent, the piers will each contain 1,000 square metres of decking.

“The Boardwalk will include over 30 kiosks, 20 food trucks, and cafes,” a spokesperson from Nakheel told Gulf News on Thursday.

Accessible from 14 points along the existing sidewalk, the Boardwalk will be at the doorstep of multiple resorts on Palm Jumeirah’s crescent. Built over the rocks of the Palm’s breakwater, the Boardwalk is six metres wide — more than double the width of the existing crescent path — with kiosks, offering refreshments and souvenirs along the 11km stretch.

Construction on the crescent started in 2014, with the opening date set in November.

Gulf News talked to residents in the area about the new attraction coming to their doorsteps.

British resident Barry Gale welcomed the new attraction in his neighbourhood, pointing out it will add to the facilities in the area. “I’ve been walking around that piece of land (existing crescent path) for the last eight years and thinking there should be something here,” said Gale.

He added the new Boardwalk will serve residents in the area by providing them with a path to walk their dogs, get a quick coffee, and enjoy a morning run.

“It’s amazing news. There will be lots to do, and what is great is that it is so international — you meet people from different nationalities on a daily basis. It will be nice to have a boulevard with coffee shops and a stretch on the beach to walk on that is not blocked off,” added Gale.

Looking ahead at future projects, Gale said he would like to see some tennis courts and a small golf area built in the community.

Just the same, resident Tara S. from Lebanon said she is pleased to hear that several coffee shops will open in walking distance from her building. “Many of the residents living here would agree that we need a few more facilities in the area, and this Boardwalk is a great way to bring a few services together in one place, adding a new spot where families can enjoy,” she said.
