Dubai: A Dubai-based Indian entrepreneur has launched an initiative to help families of Indian Army’s martyrs.

Harmeek Singh, founder and chairman of Plan b Group, has pledged to offer employment to five individuals and education to five children from families that have lost a member serving the Indian Army.

Singh’s dedication to the nation followed his recent nomination as the key spokesperson for the GCC region by NGO Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sewa Dal and its unit Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Foundation at its annual event Sadbhawna Diwas 2K17.

The title was conferred on Singh in recognition of his work in the UAE for the betterment of the Sikh community as well as the humanitarian support that he extends to Indian expatriates here.

Speaking to Gulf News, Singh said it was his humble tribute to the martyrs in the Indian Army at a time when the country is celebrating 70 years of independence that is protected by its soldiers.

He said he is encouraging Indian expats in the UAE to join hands to enable families of Indian Army’s martyrs in substantial ways other than cash donations.

“I believe in empowering people through employment and education. I’m sure we can make a difference in their lives if we come together to support this cause.”

He said he is working in coordination with Indian officials to create a bank of deserving recipients from the families of martyred soldiers.
