Dubai: UAE residents, you now have a new neighbour (pun intended).

He’s a furry brown foal, with boundless energy, and Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, wants you to name him!

On Thursday, Shaikh Hamdan posted a picture and video of the little horse on his instagram, with the caption: “A joyful pony, full of life, is looking for a name. What should we call him?”

Within minutes, suggestions started pouring in on instagram, as social media users shared names in both Arabic and English.

The video racked up half a million views in 20 hours, and had over 36,500 comments.

Some opted for obvious choices like ‘Brownie’ and ‘Sunny’.

Instagram user @meirahhh wrote: “Can we call him Lollipop because he is just so sweet?”

Comments keep pouring in

On Gulf News' Facebook page, Shaikh Hamdan's post received nearly 200 comments within an hour.

Fariz Alvarez, a reader, was inspired by the region and wrote: "Nightwind, because the pony will be as swift and smooth as the wind of the Arabian desert."

When Gulf News tweeted this story, twitter users also came up with a number of suggestions, such as 'Dash' and 'SpeedDubai'.

Of course, amidst the clamour of names being shared, there were a few people who, every so often, would become distracted by the foal's charms, and forget to consider naming him.

Instead, readers like Junaid Ahmad declared on Gulf News' Facebook page: "I just want a pony now!"

What would you call him? Share your suggestions in the comments.
