Dubai: A group of UAE volunteers is organising a road run to engage labourers and other members of the community in February 2018.
Team Sports UAE announced launching their latest CSR event ‘Wellman Road Run’ on February 2, under the support of the Dubai Sports Council.
The event, which will take place beside the Meydan Hotel at 7am, will involve a number of labourers and other professional runners from various nationalities. The run is being arranged in three race formats: 10km, 5km, and 3km, organisers said.
As a part of the CSR initiative, there will be a free registration to labourers, giving them the opportunity to be part of the run and learn about healthy living, said Meher Un Nissa, event director, Team Sports UAE.
“The launch of the ‘Wellman Road Run’ on February 2 brings a fabulous opportunity for our runners to join us again on the traffic-free Meydan Hotel roads. We are offering free registration for the labourers so they can join us,” he said.
The event will offer medals, trophies, goody bags, and refreshments, including a breakfast from Meydan Hotel and a lucky draw to participate in, he added.
The group is installing Red Crescent donation boxes for those who wish to support their event.
Team Sports UAE has made a very sound profile in the field of sports in the last three years and has been organising several races and walks in the UAE involving the entire UAE community.
“We were the first to take the initiative of organising a run for labourers in Sonapur camp. So far we have completed three editions of the event. In honour of organising the ‘Labour Run’, we have been awarded by UAE Athletic Federation,” Nissa added.
The events organised by the team are supervised by local authorities and are strongly supported by the Dubai Sports Council.
