Dubai: Dubai is gearing for a ‘very exciting concept’ for Burj Khalifa as it ushers in 2018 in a grand New Year Eve’s celebration, organisers said.

This New Year’s gala celebration will see the world’s tallest man-made tower light up together with a “scintillating water-music performances at The Dubai Fountain”.

But reports have been doing rounds that the 828-metre tower will not be lit with fireworks as has been the tradition for Dubai revellers since 2011.

Burj Khalifa is among the world’s iconic landmarks that are known for the best fireworks display for the New Year with the likes of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge in Australia, the Big Ben and London Bridge in the UK, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and Taipei 101 in Taiwan, among others.

When contacted by Gulf News, the organisers did not confirm nor deny the reports that there won’t be fireworks this year.

“This year, we have a very exciting concept, Light Up 2018, that will delight the world and we will provide more details towards the event,” an Emaar spokesperson told Gulf News in a statement on Tuesday.

Several surprises await New Year revellers as the façade of Downtown Dubai’s iconic buildings will serve as the canvas for the spectacular show that is set to a specially choreographed music.

Revellers are advised to use public transport and come before 6pm at special viewing sites at the Burj Park.

Those who prefer to watch at home may do so as the whole event will be broadcast live on television globally and streamed live at www.mydubainewyear.com and via Twitter by following @MyDowntownDubai.
