Dubai: Social media users in the UAE were left scratching their heads over the mention of fireworks – or the lack thereof.

To ring in 2018, property develop Emaar gave residents a hint of a light installation to take place at the Burj Khalifa in Downtown Dubai.

On its Facebook account, Emaar said that “Burj Khalifa is set to steal the show and Light Up 2018.”

Ayesha Khan expressed her confusion about this year’s fireworks, and said: “Could you tell us that will there be just the usual fireworks from Burj Khalifa? Or something else too?”

Rima Hasan also said she was disheartened over the probability of not having any fireworks. “Very disappointing to know there will be no fireworks this year,” she said.

Downtown Dubai also posted a video, informing residents of a groundbreaking show that will light up the area near Burj Khalifa.

The Burj Khalifa also had a say, promising “ a magnificent show with the best seats in the house.”

However, Emaar has not yet made any announcement as to whether the annual fireworks have been cancelled.
