Sharjah: The Board of Trustees of the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work has announced the creation of a new category of award for voluntary work or voluntary contributions among non-employed university students.

Commenting on the occasion, Afaf Ebrahim Al Merri, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, said: “The addition of this category is part of our commitment to encourage more people from the emirate to participate in voluntary activities.”

The award attracted 159 entries this year, an impressive 127 per cent growth as compared to the 70 participants in 2015.

Established by Decree No. 2 of 2001, issued by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work (SAV) is the first-of-its-kind in the UAE and the Arab world.
