Ajman: The Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) has launched an annual award for date palm farmers in Ajman from the next year.

The announcement was made at the 4th annual Liwa Ajman Dates Festival, which kicked off on Wednesday at the Emirates Hospitality Centre in Ajman.

Based on the directives of Shaikh Abdul Aziz Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, chairman of ATDD, the award, which will be introduced at next year’s Liwa Ajman Dates Festival, will be specifically focused on date palm farmers in Ajman, recognising their outstanding contribution to society.

Saleh Mohammad Al Geziry, director-general of ATDD, said: “We are pleased to announce this new award, which serves to recognise the efforts of farmers in the region. In Ajman, we have a thriving agricultural industry and our farmers are our central to that success. The award, which specifically supports palm tree farmers in Ajman, is reflective of the Government of Ajman’s consistent efforts to support culture in the Emirate and will celebrate their hard work, dedication and contribution to an industry which is intrinsic to the culture and heritage of the UAE.”

The Liwa Ajman Dates Festival is now in its fourth year, celebrating the country’s rich heritage and traditions, as well as providing residents and visitors with a unique opportunity to learn more about the importance of date palm trees, the farming industry and types of produce grown in the country.
