Dubai: A new media initiative that seeks to train and prepare a generation of young media professionals was unveiled by Shamma Al Mazroui, UAE Minister of State for Youth during the first day of the Arab Media Forum.

The initiative comes under the directives and patronage of Shaikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

The strategic programme of the Arab Youth Centre, which includes a media academy, seeks to provide professional training and development for youth from 22 Arab countries, said Al Mazroui.

“The Arab Youth Media initiative is a big step taken to prepare a generation of media professionals who can serve the Arab world to have a positive impact on the world,” she said.

“We are in the process of also forming the Arab Media Youth Council, where young members will work to enhance the role of youth.”

The council will develop media professionals of high competence and creativity and generate for them opportunities for professional development.

Al Mazroui called on media organisations to participate in the initiative to help raise a generation of media professionals, noting that the real success of every media person is the effect he or she has on others, and not just their personal growth.

“As we learnt from our leadership, youth are our future and they need to be empowered. The Arab world deserves to be a pioneer in media. That is why we are working to develop a young generation of media professionals,” she said.
